Questions and Answers

What is a Municipal Utility District (MUD)?

A MUD is a local government entity created to help build and maintain essential infrastructures for the community - things like water and sewer.

Who manages MUD 43?

MUD 43 is governed by a Board of Directors elected from and by the district. The Board sets the tax rates, approves budgets, oversees operations, and works with engineers, tax assessors, utility providers, and police agencies.

Do I get a water bill and MUD property bill?

Yes - the bills serve different purposes and paid to different companies / contractors.

What does the water bill cover?

The Water bill is for monthly water usage, sewer, trash and recycling services.

Why do I pay MUD property taxes?

Your MUD Property taxes help pay for the infrastructure that makes your neighborhood liveable and functional. These items include but are not limited to water and sewer systems, drainage and flood controls, operation and maintenance costs, security, and repayment of bonds.

How are my MUD taxes figured?

The MUD Property Taxes are figured by taking the Harris County Appraisal District’s Total Assessed Value of your Property and multiplying that by the MUD Tax Rate. The MUD tax rates are published each year on their website once adopted.

What are MUD Bonds?

Bonds are long-term loans the MUD uses to build and/or repair and maintain infrastructures like the water wells, sewer lines, water treatment plant, and parks. Your taxes help repay these bonds over time - similar to a mortgage for community maintenance and improvement.

Are MUD taxes the same as the Harris County and Spring ISD School taxes?

No - Each taxing authority (Harris County, Spring ISD, and MUD 43) serve different purposes for the community.

Where can I learn more or get involved?
